  • Organic Pet Treats put to the test

When we wanted to have our new Organic Pet treats tested, we did not have to look far for volunteers, the lovable @laddiethemutt who is one of Dougal's pals from Twitter jumped at the chance to test them out.

Now we know Laddie loves his treats so we decided to send him the biggest size treat that Organic Pet make, called a Jumbo it really is a huge bone shaped treat, and you get three in a pack! We did not have to wait long for Laddie's report on the huge treats, he loved them as you can see from these pictures.

  • Off to Barkworld Expo

We are having a very busy few days getting ready to go to BarkWorld Expo in Atlanta USA. I have been asked to speak about the work we do on twitter raising funds for animal charities and shelters all over the world, with our 24 hour PawPawty events.

    Bark World Expo

So I will be on my way tomorrow to meet up with everyone else at the BarkworldExpo event, you can read all about it and see who is going to be there. We hope to learn something new, meet up with some old friends, make some new pals , as well as sniffing out some great new products for all our doggie and kitty customers. It will be business as usual at the shop while we are away so why not check out some of our latest gear for you and your furry pals. I will be tweeting all the way to Atlanta and will be back next week, hopefully not to jet lagged!

  • Book marks from Dougal's Den

We are always looking for ideas for little extra's that we can include as a little gift to our customers and recently we found these great promotional gifts at 4imprint. These printed book marks will make sure that you do not have to have dog-eared books. They come in a range of colours and animal shapes. We have rabbits, cats and dogs and they look great with our logo printed on the front.

As you can see Dougal love's to help out at the office and he loves to help pick the best book marks to go out with each order.

  • Celebrity Dogs

Judging by the amount of views this has had we suspect you may already have seen it, but we could not resist this very clever mash up of 'celebrity dogs'. From Madonna to Kanye West the presenter pokes fun at all of the celebrities and is quite rude in a funny way. It made us laugh and we hope it tickles  your doggie bone on this tickle tuesday.

Having watched this Celebrity Dogs video at least 5 times now our favourite  is probably "Elton John he's 109 years old..its true did you know that ? I made it up myself!" says the little french doggie commentator. Let us know who your favourite is!

I am glad to see that there are no cats involved in this Video, we cats would never stoop so low!

  • Wasp Stings are nasty things for dogs

At this time of year wasps can be found in all sorts of places, in May and June they are usually busy collecting food for the larvae in their nest so tend to be too busy working away to be bothered by humans or other animals. But as the larvae hatch, the workers go in search of food for themselves and we all know they love anything sweet. The problem gets worse in July and August because all of the workers have nothing much to do apart from search for food and of course all of the newly hatched wasps are also on the hunt for your ice cream, beer or chocolate cake! Unfortunately Dougal was the subject of a wasp sting on Friday, he was having his walk in the usual field where we have not previously has a wasp problem when he started shaking his head and rubbing his face along the ground. On inspection we found a wasp stuck to his face near his nose, obviously we removed it but Dougal was very shaken by the whole incident. He immediately started to walk back towards home and then we noticed that he was getting slower and slower and eventually we had to pick him up. Back home he was shacking and panting and when he started to whimper we knew that a trip to the vet was required. He cried the whole way there, about 10 mins away, and when we arrived the vet took a look at him immediately as it is possible for dogs to get  anaphylactic shock just like humans can. The signs are shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and swelling of the eyes, and tongue.  Luckily Dougal appeared to not have the full symptoms but he was obviously in pain. So he was given some pain pills and also some antihistamine pills it is worth noting that things like Piriton can be given to dogs and cats if they suffer from an allergic reaction. Dougal weighs 10.5kg and his dose is half a 4mg pill twice a day. The pills do make him a bit sleepy but he appears so much better 48 hours later and now all we have to do is to make sure we keep him away from any of these pesky greedy wasps until the end of the summer. We are going to make sure we carry some Piriton with us in future just in case this happens again. We found this information on line about dosage for dogs BUT PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR VET. Tablets are 4mg, dosing is: Small dogs 2-4mg every 8-12hrs Large dogs 4-8mg every 8-12hrs Maximum recommended dose 0.5mg/kg every 12 hours There are contraindications so if your dog has medical conditions or is on other medications then check with your vet before giving them.

  • Pet Head Shampoo - Tried and Tested

    Darcy in Bath

This is Darcy who is the sister of @poppy_dog on twitter. Poppy is a good friend of Dougal so when we were looking for someone to test out some of our shampoo products I immediately thought of Pops. Then I forgot that she really really does not like having a bath, but it was no problem for clever Poppy who asked her Darcy to try the Pet Head Dirty Talk Shampoo. As you can see she looks quite happy having her bath, and I think we might have a film star in the making, she really knows how to pose for the camera!
    Darcy after her bath

You can read Darcy's review about the Dirty Talk shampoo on the site she really is a cheeky lady so be sure to check it out! We have lots more Pet Head Products including some neat brushes to make sure that after a bath your pooch can have the full pamper package. They will all be on the site very soon. Our top tip for a great bath time and to help your shampoo last longer, is to apply the shampoo with a scrunchie, you can get a really good lather even on think coats. As a special treat if you order any shampoo or conditioner from us we will send you a free scrunchie. Thanks to Poppy and Darcy for being our 1st official testers!
